Team

Līva Elksne is the founder of the TURN urn.
Death is an experience that unites us all, yet few are truly prepared for it. TURN was born from our own experience of loss, moments that prompted us to search for something deeper and more meaningful. Each of us has experienced grief and farewells to loved ones. We have sat in cold, impersonal funeral halls, made difficult decisions, and wondered why the process of saying goodbye feels so outdated and detached.
For Līva, it was especially personal. After losing someone close, she wanted to honor their memory with something living and symbolic ,something that returns to the earth in a meaningful way. Yet everything the market offered felt uniform and impersonal, lacking emotional significance. Nothing reflected the kind of farewell she desired: natural, sustainable, and meaningful. It was at that moment that the idea for TURN was born.
Ieva Kalēja, the designer behind the Turn urn, approaches this heavy theme with a wish to bring lightness into it. Shaped like a seed - a symbol of hope and new beginnings - the urn offers not just function, but also a gentle emotional experience. Ieva carefully balanced symbolism, aesthetics, and feeling, weaving her personal understanding of how objects influence us. The result is a peaceful, thoughtful piece that doesn’t look like a traditional urn, but carries comfort and quiet hope.
Līva Pērkone has joined the TURN team to contribute her perspective in shaping attitudes and building new ways of thinking in industry where change often comes slowly. With years of experience helping organizations define what innovation truly means for them, she turns ideas into tangible results. Līva believes that even in a traditional field like the funeral industry, a clear and confident approach can shift mindsets and create something genuinely new.
Kristaps Cīrulis is the co-founder of TURN urn. With a background in design and a deep appreciation for sustainability, Kristaps brings a thoughtful and practical perspective to the project. His vision bridges aesthetics and environmental responsibility, ensuring that each urn is not only functional but also meaningful and respectful to the natural world.
For Kristaps, TURN is more than just a design challenge, it is a way to rethink our relationship with nature, grief, and memory. He is driven by the belief that even the final farewell can be a beautiful, respectful act of returning to the earth.
